Rajpal Yadav gets interim bail in cheque bounce case

Rajpal Yadav was granted bail by the Delhi High Court on Monday in connection with a ₹9-crore cheque bounce case. The actor had been lodged in Tihar Jail after failing to honour financial commitments related to his 2012 directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata. The film’s failure led to mounting losses and legal action under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

The court noted that Yadav deposited ₹1.5 crore in the complainant’s account, following which Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma granted an interim suspension of sentence till the next hearing. The actor has been directed to surrender his passport and remain present during proceedings scheduled for March 18. Earlier pleas seeking more time were rejected due to inconsistent payment assurances.

Amid the crisis, several film industry colleagues extended support. Rajpal Yadav was last seen in Baby John and will next appear in Akshay Kumar’s horror-comedy Bhoot Bangla, slated for release on April 10.

Tej Pratap Yadav Extends Financial Help To Actor Rajpal Yadav

Former Bihar Minister Tej Pratap Yadav, estranged son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, has announced financial assistance of ₹11 lakh for Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav. The announcement came after Rajpal Yadav surrendered and was sent to Delhi’s Tihar Jail in connection with a ₹9 crore debt and cheque bounce case. The legal trouble has brought renewed attention to the actor’s long-running financial struggles.

The case dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav took a ₹5 crore loan to fund his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata. The film’s poor box office performance reportedly led to severe financial issues, eventually resulting in legal action. Before surrendering, the actor admitted that he saw no other option due to lack of funds.

Reacting to the situation, Tej Pratap Yadav said on X that he learned about the family’s suffering through a post and expressed solidarity. He stated that, on humanitarian grounds, the JJD family would provide ₹11 lakh as support. Actors Sonu Sood and Gurmeet Choudhary have also stepped forward, urging the film industry to help Rajpal Yadav during this difficult phase.
