GOAT: The Greatest of All Time is a 2024 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by AGS Entertainment. The film stars Vijay in dual roles alongside Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Mohan, Ajmal Ameer, Jayaram, Sneha, Laila, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Vaibhav, Yogi Babu, Premgi Amaren and Yugendran.
Plot
The film follows Gandhi, former leader of a special anti-terrorist squad, who reconciles with his squad members to address the problems which were stemmed from their previous actions.
Production
Principal photography commenced in October 2023 and wrapped by late-June 2024. Filming locations included Chennai, Thailand, Hyderabad, Sri Lanka Pondicherry, Thiruvananthapuram Russia and United States. The film has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography handled by Siddhartha Nuni and editing by Venkat Raajen.
Release
The Greatest of All Time was theatrically released on 5 September 2024 in standard and IMAX formats. Apart from the original Tamil language, it was also released with dubbed versions in Telugu and Hindi. The film had a strong opening, grossing 43 crore on its first day.
Critical Response
The film received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for the former half of the film and climax, while the writing in the middle portions was criticized. Vijay’s performance in the dual roles was highlighted as a strength of the film.
GOAT India box office collection
The film minted ₹44 crore (Tamil: ₹39.15 crore; Hindi: ₹1.85 crore; Telugu: ₹3 crore) on Thursday. It earned around ₹24.75 crore (Tamil: ₹22 crore; Hindi: ₹1.5 crore; Telugu: ₹1.25 crore) nett in India on its second day for all languages, as per early estimates. So far, it earned ₹68.75 crore [Tamil: ₹61.15 crore; Hindi: ₹3.35 crore; Telugu: ₹4.25 crore] in India. It had an overall 60.38% Tamil occupancy on Friday.
