‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ to Re-Release in Theatres as a Tribute to Dharmendra

Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89, leaving the film industry and his fans deeply saddened. To honour his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema, his popular film Yamla Pagla Deewana is all set to return to theatres. This announcement has brought excitement among fans, who will once again get the chance to relive his iconic screen presence on the big screen.

Released in 2011, Yamla Pagla Deewana featured Dharmendra alongside his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. The action-comedy entertainer was widely appreciated for its humour, family appeal, and the strong chemistry between the trio. Directed by Samir Karnik, the film remains one of Dharmendra’s most loved performances in his later years.

According to reports, the film will be re-released on January 1, as a New Year special tribute. Initially planned for December 19, the release was postponed due to the strong box-office run of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar. Produced on a budget of ₹28 crore, the film went on to collect ₹88.55 crore worldwide, as per Sacnilk.

Born on 8 December 1935, Dharmendra spent the last phase of his life battling prolonged illness. Despite receiving continuous medical care both at the hospital and at home, his health failed to improve. His passing marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. His immense contribution, charismatic screen presence, and unforgettable performances have left an irreplaceable mark on Bollywood. The Deol family, along with the entire film fraternity, is mourning the loss of the legendary actor.

Dharmendra remained active in films even at the age of 89. His final appearance will be in the upcoming movie “Ikkis”, based on the life of young military officer Arun Khetarpal, who sacrificed his life for the nation at the age of 21. Dharmendra plays the role of Khetarpal’s father, while Agastya Nanda portrays the brave soldier. The film is scheduled to release on 25 December and will now serve as a heartfelt tribute to one of Bollywood’s greatest icons.
