The Tamil film Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, has emerged as one of the biggest hits of 2024. Directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy and produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, the movie has grossed over ₹320 crore at the box office within four weeks of release, marking a milestone in Tamil cinema.
Amaran is a biographical drama based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, an Ashok Chakra awardee, and is inspired by the book India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh. The film traces the Major’s journey from his days at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai to his sacrifice during a terrorist attack in Kashmir. Sai Pallavi plays the role of Major Mukund’s wife, Indu Rebecca Varghese, bringing emotional depth to the narrative.
Actor Sivakarthikeyan was recently felicitated by the Officers Training Academy in Chennai for his moving portrayal of Major Mukund Varadarajan. This recognition underscores the film’s authenticity and the actor’s impactful performance. Speaking at the event, Sivakarthikeyan expressed his gratitude:
“It was an honour to portray Major Mukund’s life, and I feel deeply connected to his story. This recognition means a lot to me, and it highlights the importance of telling stories about real-life heroes.”
Fans eagerly awaiting the film’s OTT release can rejoice as Amaran will debut on Netflix on December 5, 2024, following a five-week theatrical window.
With stellar performances, a gripping story, and widespread acclaim, Amaran continues to draw audiences to theatres. Sivakarthikeyan’s rise to the top echelons of Tamil cinema is further cemented by this blockbuster, solidifying his status as a leading star in the industry.
Renowned star hero Ajith Kumar collaborated with acclaimed director Magizh Thirumeni and top production house, Lyca Productions, for the prestigious film Vidaamuyarchi. The film is set to be released during Sankranthi 2025. There has been a huge anticipation around the film since its announcement.
Having recently finished shooting, the film is now in post-production. The makers have unveiled the teaser now, showcasing Ajith Kumar in a different avatar. The teaser of this high-octane action thriller delivers the narrative, “When Everyone, When Everything, Abandons You, Believe In Yourself.” Ajith’s character is portrayed as someone willing to go to any lengths to fulfill his mission. The teaser has increased expectations for the film to the next level.
Lyca Productions, founded by Subaskaran and headed by G.K.M. Tamil Kumaran, is a top production house in the Indian film industry known for crafting high-budget and content-driven films. Magizh Thirumeni, known for creating versatile, entertaining and engaging films, directs this project.
Star actress Trisha and Action King Arjun are playing other pivotal roles in this movie. Earlier, we saw Ajith, Arjun and Trisha together in the blockbuster from Mankatha (Gambler in Telugu). Now, they are back again to enthral the audience with their stellar performances. Arav, Regina Cassandra and Nikhil are playing other key roles.
Kollywood’s Musical Rockstar Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music for this film. Om Prakash is handling the cinematography, NB Srikanth is working as the editor and Milan is serving as the Art Director. While Sundar composed the action sequences, Anu Vardhan designed the costumes. Subramanian Narayanan serves as the executive producer, with J. Girinathan and K. Jayaseelan as production executives. Other key crew members include G. Anand Kumar (stills), Gopi Prasanna (publicity designer), Hariharasuthan (VFX), Suresh Chandra (PR – Tamil), and Naidu Surendra Kumar and Phani Kandukuri (PR – Telugu).
SunTV acquired the satellite rights of Vidaamuyarchi, while Netflix has bagged OTT rights. The audio will be released through Sony Music.

A big attraction of the 2024 IFFI (International Film Festival of India) was the boat of the filmmakers’ association ‘IMPPA’ on Mandovi river behind the Goa Kala Academy.
